ABLE Group keep fit and healthy
Adults with a learning disability in the Armagh area have been participating in a range of health promoting activities thanks to funding from the Southern Investing for Health Partnership’s (SIHP) Small Grant Scheme.
The participants, all members of the Activity Benefits the Lifestyle of Everyone (ABLE) Group, have been enjoying a range of physical activities such as aerobics, circuit training, walking and cycling.
The Group also benefited from participating in a number of healthy eating education sessions which included their carers and families to help them all understand how to eat a more balanced and healthy diet.
Seamus Donnelly, Volunteer with the Group comments: “The funding received from the SIHP provided an excellent opportunity for the members to experience activities not normally available to them. The outside physical activities undertaken have built-up their confidence in engaging with others within the local community.”
Investing for Health Officer, Elaine Devlin added: “We all know the benefits of physical activity in reducing obesity and related illnesses, and this programme will help to improve the physical, mental, emotional and social health and well being of all members of Group.”
