Allotment funding opportunity for community groups in the west

The Public Health Agency is inviting applications from community organisations for two grants of £10,000 for the development of allotments within the Omagh and Fermanagh areas.

Welcoming the announcement on the grants Dr Eddie Rooney, Chief Executive, PHA said: “The Public Health Agency is delighted to support this innovative approach to community engagement. It is widely recognised that allotments provide a broad range of benefits to the community and the environment. Allotments enable individuals, families and community groups to access low cost fresh food. Other benefits include providing opportunities for individuals and communities to engage in healthy recreational activity.”

Brendan Bonner, Head of Health Improvement (West), PHA added: “By strengthening partnership working and improving community relations, allotment initiatives have proved to be very beneficial for all concerned. This is the second year the Public Health Agency has funded community allotment schemes with partners in the Western area.”
