Northern Ireland Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programme
The newborn blood spot pre-screening information leaflet for parents has been revised to include information about sickle cell disorders (SCD) and medium chain acyl coA dehydrogenase deficiency (MCADD) family history. The revised pre-screening leaflet (available to download along with translations of the leaflet below) should be given to all pregnant women by 30 weeks gestation and reissued to parents following delivery, before day 5.

NEWBORN SCREENING FOR SICKLE CELL DISORDERS (SCD)
In line with DHSSPS and UK National Screening Committee policy, from 1 March 2012, the universal newborn blood spot screening programme in Northern Ireland will be extended to include screening for SCD.The following professional training materials have been produced for staff involved in the delivery of newborn blood spot screening services.
