Dr Eddie Rooney, Chief Executive, Public Health Agency (PHA) presented the ‘Healthy Workplace Award’ to Woodvale Construction, tonight (1 June), at the gala Derry~Londonderry Business Awards 2012, at the City Hotel, Derry.

The ‘Healthy Workplace Award’ category, sponsored by PHA, was one of fifteen Business Awards being presented to leading businesses from the Derry area. The Awards were organised by the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, City Centre Initiative and principal sponsor Money Exchange.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr Eddie Rooney, Chief Executive, PHA, said: “Workplaces not only provide employment and financial stability but also motivation, satisfaction and a sense of pride, purpose and identity for those employed. This in turn contributes to positive health, wellbeing and quality of life.

“The Public Health Agency was set up to tackle health inequalities and does this in partnership with many organisations, including businesses. I am delighted to present the PHA sponsored ‘Healthy Workplace Award’ and congratulate Woodvale Construction, along with the other shortlisted businesses.

“Woodvale Construction has worked closely with Foyle Health @ Work, the PHA funded service that supports local businesses to develop and improve their work-based health and wellbeing initiatives.

“This Award recognises and rewards the investment and commitment of Woodvale Construction to their workforce and to the long term sustainability and prosperity of their business, the community and the North West as a whole.”

The Business Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of local businesses and their employees, during the last year. To enter, applicants provided a brief business profile, reasons why they should win each category entered and supporting documentation.
