The Public Health Dietitians Group in Northern Ireland represent Nutrition and Dietetic staff employed in Health and Social Care Trusts. The group is commissioned by the Public Health Agency to undertake the remit of public health nutrition.

  • Obesity Prevention

    PHA is responsible for delivering on priorities within the Healthy Futures strategy. The Healthy Futures strategy aims to prevent and manage obesity through education, treatment services, and a person-centred approach.  The PHA is working in the following way to (i) reduce obesity; and (ii) improve dietary health among the population of Northern Ireland. 

  • Childhood obesity

    PHA have a range of content to help if you're worried about weight and your child.

  • Physical activity

    Keeping physically active improves your health and quality of life and can help you to live longer. If you are already physically active, increasing the amount you do can also benefit your health. If not, it’s never too late to start doing some exercise.

  • Healthier Weight

    A healthy weight is different for everyone and depends on your gender, age, height and muscle mass, as well as biological and genetic factors, including ethnic background.

  • Malnutrition

    Malnutrition is a condition when we do not get enough of the nutrients from our diet in the right amounts. It relates to overweight and underweight. Being underweight can effect anyone, but it is more common for older adults, those living on their own or with an underlying health condition.

  • Swallow awareness - Dysphagia

    Dysphagia describes eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties in infants, children and adults.
