The effective management of infectious disease depends on high quality surveillance. Surveillance of communicable gastrointestinal infectious disease provides timely information so that public health action can result.
The sixth Director of Public Health Annual Report, detailing the main public health challenges in Northern Ireland, is being launched this morning. It also provides information on the wide variety of work undertaken by the PHA and its partners during 2014 to improve the health and social wellbeing of the population.
Each year, the report focuses on an overarching area, which this year is ‘Adults aged 18–64 years’. There are also two supplementary documents of key data and core tables being launched alongside the report and which help to put into context many of the figures being reported.
This report focuses on the role of nurses in the care and support of older people and has been developed in partnership with Age NI. The work has seen the development of a co-design model of participation that can be used when working with key stakeholders including service users to review services.
