This page is for older adults, their families and carers who want to find out about screening programmes available in Northern Ireland and whether they may be eligible to take part.
Screening is offered to certain groups of people who do not have symptoms. It can help identify people who may be at increased risk of a condition so that further tests, advice or treatment can be offered where needed.
Women and people with cervix aged 50 to 64 are invited for cervical screening every five years.

Women aged 50 to 70 who are registered with a GP are invited for breast screening every three years. If you are over 70, you can contact your local breast screening unit to request screening every three years.

Men and women aged 60 to 74 who are registered with a GP are invited for bowel cancer screening every two years and are sent a screening kit to complete at home.
Men registered with a GP are automatically invited for AAA screening in the year they turn 65. Men over 65 who have not previously been screened can request a scan.

Diabetic eye screening is also available to eligible people with diabetes.

Screening invitations use information held by your GP practice. Make sure your GP has your correct details so you receive invitations when you are eligible.
