Safeguarding children and young people

Who is this page for?

This page provides information for parents, carers, families, volunteers and professionals who want to understand safeguarding, get guidance and know where to go for advice or support.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting children and young people from abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm. It also means promoting their health, wellbeing and development so they can grow up safe, healthy and supported.

Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding children and young people.

If you are worried about your child

If you think your child is at immediate risk of harm, call 999.

If you have concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing, contact your local HSC Trust Gateway Service or seek advice from a health or social care professional.
