Knit, natter and lots of yarn… Ballywalter Seniors Club knits 200 breasts to support new mums

The Ballywalter Seniors Club’s Knit and Natter group, along with Millisle Health and Wellbeing group, has completed an extraordinary project, knitting 200 breast models to support midwifery education at Queen’s University Belfast. The handcrafted teaching aids will be used by student midwives to learn essential skills such as positioning and attachment for breastfeeding, helping future healthcare professionals provide better support to new mothers on their breastfeeding journey. PHA breastfeeding scheme launches at Belfast City Airport

Belfast City Airport has become the latest organisation to join the Public Health Agency’s (PHA) Breastfeeding Welcome Here scheme – a programme that aims to increase the number of premises which actively show support to breastfeeding mums. This new membership represents a huge support network to breastfeeding mums visiting the airport and becomes part of over 900 businesses, local government facilities and community organisations who have joined Breastfeeding Welcome Here. HSBC UK latest organisation to join the ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ initiative

HSBC UK has become the newest member of the Public Health Agency’s (PHA) ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ scheme, highlighting their commitment to supporting breastfeeding mums. The scheme is an initiative that aims to make it easier for mums to recognise places where they can breastfeed their baby when they are out and about. All five regional branches of HSBC UK have joined a network of ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ 800-plus venues that include many cafes, shops, council facilities, universities, tourist attractions and other businesses across Northern Ireland, and in doing so have agreed that

This booklet provides new safety inormation on the preparation and storage of infant formula milk and is aimed at minimising the risk of infection from bacteria that may sometimes be present in the milk powder. It explains how to sterilise feeding equipment and make up formula milk, and highlights the safety precautions that need to be observed.

This book presents the reasons why mothers and babies benefit from breastfeeding and explains how to breastfeed successfully. It covers issues including how breastfeeding works, positioning and attachment, how to know if breastfeeding is going well, expressing milk, breastfeeding and babies in special care, advice on breastfeeding and bed-sharing, dealing with common problems, fitting breastfeeding into your life, and going back to work.

Produced by Unicef and supported by the PHA, this leaflet is for parents who have a baby in neonatal care.

It covers feeding your baby, the importance of skin-to-skin contact, helping your baby’s development, getting involved, helping your baby to breastfeed and taking your baby home. It also provides useful contacts and support groups.
