Infectious diseases

Infectious diseases are illnesses caused by germs like bacteria, viruses, and fungi that can spread from person to person or through the environment.

The Health Protection Service works hard to prevent and control these diseases to keep our communities safe and healthy. We monitor outbreaks, provide advice to healthcare professional, and support vaccination and infection control efforts to reduce the risk of illness for everyone.

This report reflects progress by the Public Health Agency (PHA) in 2024-2025 in delivering our corporate priorities and highlights examples of work undertaken during this period.
