PHA honours future journalists at awards

The eighth annual Public Health Agency (PHA) media awards run by the Western Investing for Health Partnership which honour media students for their understanding of public health issues have been held in Derry-Londonderry.

The awards were presented by Mark Simpson from the BBC at a ceremony held in Waterside Theatre.

Students from colleges and universities were invited to submit articles and pictures on a current health issue.

Explaining the significance of the awards Joni Millar, Health Improvement Officer at the PHA (West) said:

“The media awards focus on public health and its relationship with the media. The awards encourage young people who are considering a career in the media and journalism to take a broader approach when reporting health issues.”

Joanne Smith Project Manager at Drink Think said: “This is the third year we have been involved in the Media Awards. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to work with future journalists and marketing people but also to gain fresh ideas for the work that we do. We are delighted with this year’s winning entries and one will be seen on billboards locally in September.”
