Group B streptococcus (GBS) infection in newborn babies

Group B Streptococcus is an organism which is carried by around 25% of the population.  In the majority of people it causes no harm however around the time of labour and the birth, many babies came into contact with GBS.  Most pregnant women who carry GBS have healthy babies though, rarely, GBS infection in newborn babies can cause serious complications and can be life threatening.

Baby’s Day Out book – fun for tots and great for families

The importance of providing children with the best possible start in life will be highlighted today [Friday 8 March] at the launch of the ‘Baby’s Day Out’ book in the Central Library, Derry~Londonderry. The book features a story about a child visiting the city and learning about the fascinating things it has to offer, and is being launched at the RhymeTime session as part of the Humdinger! March has only just begun but Belfast City Centre Management is springing into action with the launch of its series of Family Friendly Fun events, supported by Belfast Strategic Partnership. Welcome to the Twilight Zone 2, where young people in the care system demonstrate their creative skills and talents

The second Twilight Zone Art exhibition will be launched on Wednesday 6th March at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. The exhibition represents the work of 40 young people, currently living in residential units across Northern Ireland, who took part in a ‘Twilight’ week-long Halloween programme of music, song-writing, film making, writing, painting and crafts, last year.

The Public Health Agency’s (PHA) Western office today unveiled the hidden talents of its employees at their premises in Gransha Park House, Derry-Londonderry at the opening of their art exhibition. The PHA is now urging other workplaces across Northern Ireland to contribute to staff development by encouraging their employees to unleash their creative talents and submit arts and crafts that could be displayed in public areas, providing a happy, healthy and inviting workplace.
