Snack smart this summer: new video series helps parents with healthy snack tips for kids

As the summer holidays are in full swing and children are spending more time at home, the Public Health Dietitians Group is launching a new series of short videos designed to help parents and caregivers make healthy snack choices for their children. This poster shows graphically how much of each of the following food groups we should eat for a healthy, balanced diet: fruit and vegetables; potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starchy carbohydrates; dairy and alternatives; beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins; and oils and spreads.  

This leaflet for women of child-bearing age explains what folate and folic acid are, why they are important and how to get enough.

 What we eat every day has a big impact on our health – from the amount of energy we have when we get up in the morning to our risk of developing conditions like heart disease and cancer in the future. A healthy diet doesn’t have to be boring or restrictive – we can still eat a wide range of delicious foods, while keeping an eye on our intake of sugar, fat and salt.
