Local and national policy increasingly emphasises the central role of service users and the public in shaping Health and Social Care (HSC).

This is the second edition of the HSC R&D Division’s Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) Strategy, which highlights the importance of involving patients and the public in research and outlines the progress already made in implementing PPI in research in Northern Ireland.

Healthcare associated infections are infections that someone has developed as a direct result of receiving healthcare. Occasionally, carers or others providing healthcare may develop HCAIs.

This leaflet is for pregnant women who have been diagnosed with hepatitis B. It provides information on the care pathway for these women, including referral to a liver specialist, the vaccination course for the newborn child, and long-term protection from the infection. It has been updated to include new advice on immunisation of babies from 1 August 2017.

This leaflet is for patients who have no functioning spleen. It explains their condition and outlines some important information that patients with no functioning spleen need to know. 

This wallet card is for patients who have no functioning spleen to carry with them. It allows the patient to record their personal details and immunisations and is a quick pointer to healthcare staff if the patient is taken ill. It is available from GPs.

This poster encourages the general public to take up the offer of a flu vaccine if they are eligible.
